Rivian Electric Vehicle Owners to Have Access to Tesla Superchargers in 2024
Rivian is set to join the likes of GM and Ford in being granted access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. The company plans to provide an adapter to R1T and R1S owners, enabling them to connect their electric vehicles to Supercharger stations from spring 2022. Additionally, Rivian will make use of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) charge ports as standard in R1 vehicles from 2025, as well as in the forthcoming R2 platform.
The move means Rivia owners will soon be able to charge their vehicle’s battery at more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers in the United States and Canada. Rivian also plans to continue expanding the Adventure Network of DC fast chargers.
Today we signed an agreement with @Tesla to adopt the North American Charging Standard. This opens charging for Rivian vehicles on Tesla’s Supercharger network across the United States and Canada. Access starts as soon as Spring 2024. https://t.co/Z5SBOFytgy pic.twitter.com/fWOMNtpkYs

“The introduction of the North American charging standard allows our current and future customers to take advantage of Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network while we continue to build out our Rivian Adventure network,” Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe said in a statement. “We look forward to finding new ways to accelerate the adoption of electric cars.”
Last year, Tesla announced that it would open-source NACS, which has made strides toward becoming a true standard for EV charging in North America. Ford, GM and now Rivian have all adopted it as part of an apparent move away from the Combined Charge System (CCS). In November, Tesla pushed for NACS, noting that the breadth of the Supercharger network meant the standard had much wider availability than CCS. Automakers’ transition to NACS may push Electrify America and Chargepoint to adopt it in their infrastructure as well.
